Resident Evil 2 box rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield civilians in the zombie-infested Raccoon City, where they fight against the hordes of zombies trying to make their escape.

Resident Evil 2 (2 or Biohazard in Japan) is a survival horror game that was originally released in 1998 by the company Capcom. Resident Evil 2 uses the same mechanics and play styles like the previous Resident Evil, but with updated graphics and new characters and locations.

Claire and Leon
Resident Evil 2 follows the story of rookie cop Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield in the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. On his first day on the job, Leon finds a dead body on the road, as it enters and leaves the city in his car to investigate. He is surrounded by zombies and runs into Claire Redfield after his escape. The two jump in a police car abandoned and start away only to be caught in an accident because of a zombie in the back seat of the car and a truck driver zombified. The incident forced Leon and Claire to divide and agree to meet at the police station.

In the police station, Leon is the area abandoned except for one, solitary policeman wounded Leon gives his business and key tasks with him escort the survivors outside the city. However, the only ones left were zombified or killed, and many journal entries illustrate the state of reduction of the survivors before the arrival of Leon. Of all the documents, Leon discovers the diary of Chris Redfield and Claire informs the activities of his brother in Europe when it comes to the police station. The two split up again to find other survivors and a way out of the city.

While inside the police station Leon meets a woman named Ada Wong, who is looking for her boyfriend John missing. Leon and Ada then accompany one another for a good part of the game. While Claire instead meets a girl named Sherry, while checking out the office of the chief of police. Sherry is the daughter of the scientist William Birkin, who was on the G-Virus, which was leaked in the city and turned everyone into zombies. Claire and Sherry then run in William Birkin mutated into a monstrous state, after being almost killed when the Umbrella forces were sent to recover the virus from him, and he injected himself with the virus.

Birkin plays the main boss for the whole game, and awe Leon and Claire at certain intervals. After Leon and Claire make their way through the sewers and underground research umbrella under Raccoon City, learn all the secrets that the company hid, and the experiments they were doing. After the real puzzle solving and shooting zombies Resident Evil, Leon and Claire set up the ability to self-destruct and destroy all that is in it. They plan to escape using the subway system to get to the outside.
Claire meets Annette.
At each end to a Resident Evil game is the final boss. So as you are preparing to leave, Birkin hangs their plans as Leon or Claire has to do with him. Depending on what you are in the scene, you’ll fight Birkin 2 or 3 times until it is out forever. After the Birkin is out of the Leon, Claire and Sherry all make it out on the subway, such as plant explodes, ending the zombie terror, for this Resident Evil.

Depending on which character you’re playing scenario as B, the final note will be looking for Chris Redfield or terminate the experiments Umbrella once and for all. Going from Code Veronica and Claire Redfield from Resident Evil 3 epilogue, it is strongly believed voting Claire to find her brother is the final canon.

Scenarios A and B

Resident Evil 2 in four different scenarios, the first two have been labeled as Leon A and Claire B scenario, where Leon entered the police station through the front entrance and Claire through the back door. The other two scenarios, labeled as Claire A and Leon B, had the roles reversed with the plot slightly modified. Each scenario provided a different experience as an encounter with Robert Kendo and Marvin Branagh in Scenario A and the battle against Mr. X Scenario B.

Resident Evil 2 present different combinations of events and end-to let players initially wondering what order actually happened. He was eventually confirmed by Capcom in the timeline official Resident evil Resident Evil 5 that the version is the canon Claire A and Leon B story.

The gameplay in this installment of Resident Evil is the same as the gameplay of the first. Polygonal models used for characters are zombies and the main characters, while there are pre-rendered backgrounds and static shots are still in use. The player travels as Leon or Claire, through various locations throughout Raccoon City, solving puzzles as needed to continue forward, as in all games Resident Evil. Besides zombies, the player will encounter a few different types of mutated creatures. From zombies and zombie dogs for acid-spitting plants and giant butterflies.

Throughout the game you will find different types of weapons and their uses unique. There is a common gun, used in a lot of games, rifle and machine gun. After further progression through the game you get weapons like a grenade launcher, magnum and even a flamethrower. After you complete the game with certain requirements met, you can also unlock unique weapons Rocket Launcher, Gatling gun and a variant of the infinite ammo machine gun.

With the new graphics engine and improved, there are now more zombies are on the screen, and you can see how your health is character animation of the body. If a character is in the area of caution, they will hold their chest, but moving at the same speed as if they were perfectly fine. On the other hand if you are in the danger zone will hold their chest and limp, incredibly moving slower than before. The screen death is even more gruesome this time, showing the character being devoured or eaten out of the creature or creatures that killed him or her.

The most important thing of Resident Evil 2 is the system scenario. When a player finishes the first run of the game (known as a scenario) and save the data, opened the scenario B. Scenario B is the same events that the person has crossed, but from the point of view of the character in front. If you beat the scenario as Leon, you should start the scenario B as Claire. Furthermore, there is a sector in scenario B that there was in a scenario. There are four scenarios, two for Leon, and two for Claire.

There is also a classification system depends on how you finish the game. Ranks are determined by how fast the end of the game, the number of first-aid spray are used and the number of saves. A higher degree will unlock special weapons that would not normally be used. Another survivor is the unlockable mini-games that the player assumes the role of HUNK USS operational code name. Starting at sewers, must make his way through the RPD to the roof for extraction with the possession of the G-virus. After many completions, a parody of the scenario HUNK is unlocked in which you play as a giant piece of tofu.

Yet another minigame also exists, but only for specific ports. Titled Battle Extreme has a selectable character from the initial two and finally four make their way from the underground Umbrella facility for the Raccoon City Police Department to locate four bombs anti-virus. He had many difficulties and even unlockable characters.

Version Differences

Resident Evil 2 (Sony PlayStation)
The original version of Resident Evil 2 published January 21, 1998 in North America. A week later, Biohazard 2 was released in Japan. This content has been split between two discs and presented significant improvements to the mechanics and design of the previous Resident Evil (see the “game” above).

Presumably, the Japanese version was much easier than its North American counterpart, with a different voice placement, better firepower and auto-aim enabled by default. In addition, the Japanese version did not include scenes of people being eaten by zombies after death and blood has been reduced along with some violent representations.

Resident Evil 2: DualShock Version (Sony PlayStation)
Practically the same as the original PlayStation version, but with additional functionality to accept the DualShock controller issued after the date of the original release of the game. The game featured the functions of vibration and analog control. This version also saw the addition of Extreme battle, an unlockable mini-game where the player must reach the police station and found four anti-biohazard bombs. In addition, a cheat code for unlimited ammo has been added.

The Japanese version DualShock characterized by a “U.S. version” mode, bringing the difficulty on par with its counterparts overseas, this version also had feature parity with the North American version and sported the same add-ons and DualShock only functions. The scenes of violence and gore, however, continues to be censored, modified or omitted.

In 2009, the DualShock version was released on the PlayStation Store at a price of $ 5.99 and is compatible with both the PlayStation 3 and PSP.

Resident Evil 2 Platinum (Windows ’98 PC)
Contains the same content as the PlayStation version, except mini-games Dualshock version was released from the outset. The game was released on two CD-ROM.

Resident Evil 2 (Nintendo 64)
After the commercial success of PlayStation, Capcom has commissioned Angel Studios (later renamed Rockstar San Diego) to manage the port Nintendo 64. The two discs PSX version, however, had 757 MB of data scattered his two disks (according to data from PlayStation Store) and the highest capacity cartridge Nintendo 64 was a paltry 64 MB. Despite the limitations multimedia software, the N64 door was comparable to the PSX version with the omission of game Battle extreme version DualShock the mini. This version also added the file EX, which refers to many details of the plot and the then unreleased Resident Evil Zero.

Thanks to the Expansion Pak, the game displayed at a higher resolution, at times, switching between 640×480 and 320×240 (native resolution is the PSX version) depending on how many enemies were in the area. If the player is defeated enemies, then the game would automatically be the highest resolution. Without the Expansion Pak, graphics of the game very similar to the PSX version.

Audio compression suffered the most, despite the addition of a surround sound absent from previous versions. All content in the form a cartridge and not force players to switch between two different pieces of media.

Biohazard 2 Value Plus (Sega Dreamcast)
A Japanese exclusive version that came out a year after the release of the DualShock and in the same year as the N64 and PC ports. It ‘been bundled with a disc with a demo of Resident Evil: Code Veronica and assorted music from various games in the series. Since the Dreamcast runs on a Windows CE operating system, this version of Resident Evil 2 was identical to the PC version (see above). However, if the player had a VMU could see the health of your character on the display.

Resident Evil 2 (Sega Dreamcast)
Resident Evil 2 on Dreamcast in territories other than Japan is a two-GD-ROM set with each disc to be a campaign for the two characters, not unlike the PlayStation edition. The Dreamcast version is known to have no drop in framerate of the game with high resolution wallpapers with respect to the PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and GameCube versions. He also had the “Extras” option at the main menu which allowed the player to view concept art and in-game scenes. As the Japanese version, if the player had a VMU, were able to see the health of your character on the screen VMU.

Biohazard 2 PC (Windows XP PC)
The same as the PC version came out in 1998, if not now compatible with computers running Windows XP and a DVD-ROM with CG scenes uncompressed. This particular version is an exclusive Japanese.

Resident Evil 2 (Nintendo Gamecube)
Some see this as the final version of Resident Evil 2, and even if you do not have any files on EX N64, comes complete with mini Battle Game. Even if he did sport a little better graphics, background resolutions were worse than the Dreamcast and PC versions. Small differences, such as the entry in the main menu are present. All content is available on a single disc.

Along with the release of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on the Gamecube, this particular version is considered a rarity in the system due to poor circulation.

Resident Evil 1.5

Following the launch of Resident Evil, work immediately began to Resident Evil 2 and was scheduled for a release in 1997. Towards the end of development, when the game was about 80-90% done, the creators felt the sequel was more of the same and has been demolished. The previous version of the game had a female protagonist named Elza Walker, who was eventually replaced by Claire Redfield. He shared many of the traits of Claire as being a great fan of motorcycles and was a student. While Claire is the sister of Chris Redfield, protagonist of Resident Evil 1.5, Elza, was totally unrelated to any previous Resident Evil character. Leon Kennedy also had a look radically different at first, but this has been altered since Capcom believes has taken too strong resemblance to the former Resident Evil hero Chris Redfield. In addition, the cop named Marvin who dies early in Resident Evil 2 had a much more important role in this incarnation, presumably would help the player to escape from the city similar to the role of Barry in Resident Evil 3.

In addition, the design and layout of the police department was modern and looked like a typical police. Lacked the gothic elements of the police station and used the final gray color with some frequency, perhaps in an attempt to make the area feel sterile. Finally, among other things, have been the variety of monsters. Sketches and screenshots showcase of different races zombies, monsters resembling the reapers of Resident Evil 5 and two bosses, who made the cut plane and the room named Zeiram Gorgoda. Zeiram and Gorgoda of design elements in the final analysis, were used to create William Birkin G-shape.

A version of the game that seems to be almost complete it within the confines of a private collection, but apart from a 10 minute video of new movies posted on YouTube, nothing else was released, much to the dismay of fans.
